DECEMBER 2019 NEWSLETTER
THE NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting is this coming Saturday, December 21st, at Woodcraft.
The Address is 102 Four Coins Drive, Canonsburg, PA 15317. The doors open at 9am, with the meeting starting about 9:45.
Please save the parking spaces directly in front of the store for customers, so I am asking that you park against the grass strip.
THIS MONTH! – ORNAMENT AND BOX EXCHANGE
This is my favorite meeting of the year! Every person who brings in an ornament will exchange with someone else and everyone who has a box will do the same. We display all the artwork at the front of the room, so fell free to take pictures.
The other thing that makes this meeting special is that we all share our favorite goodies. That’s right, you all are the snack people. Bring in a box of your favorite sweets or hor d’ovures to share and try everyone else’s. The coffee pot will be on and I will bring a cooler with water.
A little while ago the December issue of American Woodturner arrived and there are a couple of articles that I would like to bring to your attention. For those of you new to turning, “The Basics of Workholding” is a must read. If you don’t belong to AAW, see if you can borrow this issue from someone. For all of us “The Airbrush Demystified” answers a lot of questions. I have always stated that if the only thing I got out of my AAW membership was the magazine, it would be worth it. The rest of the things offered are a bonus.
We are fortunate this month to see the work of so many people in their ornaments and boxes. If you had time to work on something else, please bring it in to share with us.
JANUARY – Becky Maruca will demonstrate her winged candle holder. This is not only a beautiful turning, but the way it is done will get you thinking about other projects.
FEBRUARY – Dave Dudney will show us how he does a basic platter. If you are having trouble with bowls or have never done one this is the first step. If you think about it, a platter is simply a really shallow bowl and is a logical first step to improve your turnings.
MARCH – We welcome professional turner Michael Kehs to Turners Anonymous! This will be a three day event with a demo on Saturday, and classes on Sunday and Monday. More information will be in next month’s newsletter.
APRIL – Another hands on session – this time we will work on the skills that Dave Dudney showed us back in February.
MAY – I know Glen told me what’s going on, but you have to wait for him to tell you on Saturday. “ Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most”
PARKING AND TRUNK SALE
Please save the parking spaces directly in front of the store for customers. We are asking that you park against the grass strip. This is where we will have our “Trunk Sale”. Anyone who has items for sale or free give-a-ways can make the deals out here before the meeting. Please don’t bring anything into the store other than Instant Gallery items. We don’t want to mix up our stuff with Woodcraft stock.
