JUST A QUICK NOTE
THE PICNIC
Many of us had a good time at the picnic August 24th. I want to thank all those who helped bring this about and to the folks who worked behind the scenes preparing and cooking the food.
In addition to food and conversation, we had two lathes and a little bowl turning competition. Also several of us shared what we have been working on over the summer.
I shared a new sanding product that I purchased from Alan Trout at Arrowmont. The sandpaper were not samples, but were all I had from the transaction so whoever ended up with them please bring them to the September meeting.
THIS COMING WEEKEND
ROSS COMMUNITY DAY
We have been invited to do a demo at Ross Township’s Community Day on Saturday, September 7th at The Block at Northway (the old Northway Mall). We will have a booth where we can turn on a lathe and display our work. The time is noon to 9pm. Please let Becky know if you can attend and how long you can demo that day.
FAIR IN THE PARK
Our annual presentation at Fair in the Park this year is Friday, – 1pm – 7pm, Saturday , 10am to 5pm, and Sunday, – 10am – 5pm.
The address, depending on which side you come in is: Mellon Park, 1047 Shady Avenue, or 6300 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh.
HELP, HELP, HELP – We have enough people to turn things on Saturday, but if you can talk up the club, feel free to stop by. On Friday, there are only two people to set up, turn, and talk to people. The same occurs on Sunday! If we don’t get more members interested then these demonstrations will have to cease. Please contact Dave Betler ( dabetler@gmail.com) if you can help. Bring sharp tools (we won’t have a grinder) and some of your completed projects to the booth (I know you all love to show your stuff).
These demos bring in new members and showcase what we do as an organization, as well as helping, teaching, learning, & having fun in woodturning.
Please note: We are not allowed to sell any of our projects at these events. It puts our tax exempt status in jeopardy.
See-Ya,
Dave Betler
